Fusion IT was one of 56 employers to attend the West Michigan Military and Veterans Career Expo, held at the Grand Valley Armory in Wyoming, Michigan and hosted by New Horizons Learning Center and West Michigan Works of Kent County. Fusion IT has a focused strategy and commitment to Veteran recruiting and hiring that has led to Fusion becoming inherently more competitive within the Managed Services market by attracting a highly-skilled, committed workforce of prospective leaders and team-focused employees who have a history of servitude to their country.
Three members of Fusion IT’s staff, Kyle Wentworth, Michael Meddaugh and Lora Nickel, were on site to meet with potential candidates. There were an estimated 150 candidates attending the career fair, comprised of men and women who have served, or are currently serving, in all branches of our armed forces, as well as military spouses and other military family members. When asked about the event, Mike Meddaugh of Fusion IT said, “The turnout at this event was very positive! It was great to meet with so many Veterans. There was a variety of skill levels, some just getting into the IT field, some that were experienced and others that were unsure how their MOS (military occupational specialty) translated into the civilian IT world.”
Fusion IT has developed a close partnership with New Horizons Learning center as Fusion’s primary partner for certification classes. Those attending the expo with a passion for technology and a desire to learn were not only introduced to Fusion IT and the career opportunities available, but also to New Horizons Certifications courses. Additionally, funding opportunities available thru West Michigan Works were also presented.
Lora Nickel stated, “I feel that these career expos are an essential stepping stone for our military members both active duty and veterans alike. It allows them to speak face to face with employers as well as demonstrate their leadership skills and strengths gained in their military service, which cannot be demonstrated on a resume.”
Kyle Wentworth, Founder of Fusion IT, was on site giving career path advice and sharing some expertise on the transition from military IT careers into civilian careers. He even held a few “on the spot” interviews with candidates.
