3 Types of Data You Want to Back Up ASAP

You know your business needs data backup, but do you understand why? Simply put, your business is at risk of total annihilation if it doesn’t have a plan in place to recover lost data, and you don’t want that impending doom hanging over your head. If you’re wondering where to get started, here are three types of data that you should absolutely prioritize with your backups.

That said, you want to back up all data if you can, but these are three that we think are especially important to consider.

Your Customer Data

What would happen if all the data you’ve been collecting on customers were to simply vanish overnight?

It would be difficult to operate if you lost access to customer contact information and other types of data. This is especially true for financial information you use to bill them. If you lose that much data, it’s enough to slow you down, and if it slows you down enough, it could threaten your ability to recover.

Make sure you’re backing up your customer data so you avoid this type of incident.

Vendor Data

Customer data is bad enough, but what about your vendor data?

All those businesses you work with, including the cloud-based services and the in-person vendors, share certain types of data with you to ensure their goods and services can be delivered as expected. Naturally, when that data disappears, your ability to access those goods and services can also be disrupted. If your operations depend on your vendors (and they probably do), you can bet your business will experience trouble with fulfilling obligations to its customers, too.

Still, what about your most precious data? You know the kind—the proprietary and internal data that makes your business tick?

Intellectual Property and Internal Documents

Your business makes money from its products, services, and expertise, and if that disappears, good luck getting it back.

If your business is in manufacturing, for example, and you lose the design specs for your most popular product, that would be incredibly difficult to replicate. The same can be said for any organizational knowledge, like internal documents, handbooks, user guides, templates, marketing plans, and anything else that keeps it running. Really, the best option is to have data backup ready to go for when this situation does pop up.
